What is the Vertical Express for MS?
A series of on-snow events at resorts across North America to raise funds for people and families living with multiple sclerosis (MS). For skiers, boarders and telemarkers of all ages and abilities. Learn how to participate…

Participants receive a free lift pass, goody bag and food. Additional prizes are based on dollars raised by participants. Raise $15,000 and win a trip to April Awards in Vail, CO.

Proceeds support Can Do MS, a nonprofit organization that leads the way with comprehensive programs that empower people and families living with MS to transform and improve their quality of life.

How do I register online?

To register online:   join

  1. You will be linked to the verticalexpress.org home page.
  2. Click on your event location from the Vertical Express home page.
  3. Read the event-specific information.
  4. Click on Create a Fundraising Team at the top of the page.
  5. Create a User Name and Password.
  6. Follow the steps to register you and your team.
  7. Create a fundraising Web page to request contributions and track your team’s progress.

How much do I need to raise?
Each team of 3 raises a minimum of $1000 or $333 each (plus a few pennies) to enter the event. Remember - the more you raise, the better the prizes! In order to win an expense paid trip to Vail, CO for the April Awards, your team must raise at least $15,000.

How many people on a team?
Three, 3, III, tres, trois! Any combo of age, ability, and sex.

Do I have to be a good skier or racer?
Not really. This is about FUNdraising, camaraderie, and enjoying the day with friends, old and new. On-snow performance is rewarded with prizes, but so is fundraising, so don't let your snowplow keep you from joining in the fun!

Can I still participate even if I don’t ski or can’t attend an event?
Yes. You can join the Virtual Express for MS. Raise $5,000 or more and earn an expense-paid trip to the April Awards in Vail, April 15-18, 2010.

I'm a snowboarder/telemarker... can I participate?
No problem. Teams can be made up of skiers, riders and telemarkers.

Where does the money go?
Funds raised through the Vertical Express for MS benefit The Heuga Center’s programs for people and families living with this incurable disease, and help provide scholarships for those unable to pay for these unique programs. The Heuga Center is a national, nonprofit organization based in Edwards, CO. Donations are tax-deductible. Learn more...

What does the Can Do MS do?
Can Do MS conducts health and wellness programs each year for people and families struggling with multiple sclerosis. Programs include education, nutrition, mental well-being, and exercise, as well as learning specific, individualized life management skills and ways to integrate wellness activities into everyday life. Can Do MS' Programs help people set personal life goals as a focal point for reclaiming their lives, and then give them the strategies, confidence and support to strive for those goals. What is MS?
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, disabling neurological disease with no known cause or cure. One in 750 Americans have MS. It usually strikes people in the prime of their life, between the ages of 20 and 50. More than two thirds of its victims are women. Learn more about MS...

How do I handle donations? Do I send them to Can Do MS or keep them until event day?
It’s best to record, then send your donations to Can Do MS. Have checks made out to Can Do MS, and be sure to include the team name and event on the memo line.

You bet! Contact your event director for VEMS and Can Do MS brochures.
